Environment is a place where humans as well as plants and animals live. Keeping it clean and neat is our responsibility. It is necessary to keep our environment clean because we get fresh air, reduce pollution etc. An unclean environment leads to a bad condition of a society, arrival of diseases and many more.
With the ever increasing use of technology and industries flourishing the amount of pollution in our environment is increasing at a rapid pace. Keeping our environment clean is a very important part of our lives in these days. It is important to focus on this as we have to make sure that the environment is preserved for future generations. Water pollution and litter are considered to be two of the main cause of the environment being dirty.
People most of the times throw litter and dust on the footpaths and roads instead of throwing it in dustbins. This is how slowly the litter accumulates and transforms into huge garbage. If this garbage is not cleaned, further it smells stink and welcomes the diseases and then people are affected by it. Thus, if we don’t keep our environment clean there would be many consequences or problems which will be faced by the society and people that live in that environment.
These are some ways in which we can keep our environment clean:-
*Don’t litter: Please don’t litter in your society and roads. Set a good example. Use dust bins, it will help in keeping the society clean. If society is plagued by litter then consult with your society members and other authorities in order to organize an awareness camp. Work with them and volunteers to clean the litters.
*Plant trees: We should plant trees in your society or we can also adapt any tree and take care of that. Trees will help in controlling the pollution at least a little bit. Having lots of trees in your society will help you have fresh air for you and your kids, maintain good health, and with a beautiful green society you can inspire others to follow the track and save the city and environment.
*Be eco-friendly: Restore water, use eco-friendly things, do not dump electronic gadgets etc. Be eco-friendly by using bicycle instead of cars that makes a lot of noise and increases pollution.
*Recycle plastic materials: Don’t just throw away the plastic bottles or plates that you have used, but instead use them and recycle it for the betterment of the environment. Plastic takes years to decompose and is hazardous If the plastics are burnt or thrown away. So, recycle plastics.
So, we should keep our environment clean and green for a smell-free, disease-free live. By implementing on it we can reduce pollution, get fresh air, live peaceful life without any problems.
So, are you all from now going to keep your environment/surroundings clean?
"Yeah I want to clean up the environment, but what can I do? One person can't make a difference."
It is hard for one person to make a change, but when all of us "one persons" get together we can make a notable impact on our society.
First, start by getting all the "one persons" together in your school. Better yet, get all those people together and start your school's very own Environmental Club! That's what we did at Auburn High School. Our club started because kids wanted to clean up our earth. They realized the impetus has to begin with cleaning up the environment closest to you.
One program we started was a clean-up of our school's outdoor campus. We were disgusted with the amount of pollution we found scattered around our school. So we decided to do something about it and make our efforts noticeable to the rest of the student body. We arranged to pick up trash during lunch and after school. At both times the outdoor campus is used and visible to the school population. We put the trash on display so the whole school could enjoy the garbage collage they created.
To earn money we held a canvas bag sale. We were hoping that people would replace their paper lunch bags with our economically and environmentally sound bags. We bought bulk canvas and sewed the bags ourselves. This enabled us to sell the bags for only four dollars. Not only were the bags cheaper than their store bought cousins, but the club was able to make a three dollar profit from each bag, which added up when we sold over 60 bags in only three days.
Another project we started was recycling old Christmas trees. We advertised this new program at local Christmas tree outlets. After Christmas we also asked our neighbors if we could replant their still-living trees. We intend to plant these otherwise wasted trees in local parks and behind our school.
In the months to come we have a number of projects planned. We hope to re-establish our paper recycling program which was postponed due to limited storage space. We have planned another outdoor campus clean-up this spring. We will also make reusable laminated hall passes to replace the wasteful paper ones.
So now that you have some ideas for your school's environmental club, get started. Let's show the world what a difference kids can make.
Please write and tell us what programs your Environmental Club has found successful, or write if you have any questions about starting a club. Please write to us at: Auburn High School c/o Environmental Club, Lake Avenue Extension, Auburn, NY 13201 ^
